What would you do, if you knew it would take 30 years to reach your dreams?
If you tried for one year, 5 years, 25 years and nothing - would you quit your passion and dream?
This is the story of a band called Anvil..
It has captured the hearts of people all over the world and it may inspire you as well, with your passion and dreams.
It Takes A Desire, A Pulsating Desire - A Dream..
In Canada, a dream was about to be born. They’d be the rising star of Metal music.
In a house that was about to get it's first taste of Metal, is a young boy called Lips (Steve). His dream was to make it big in the music scene, do what he loves, and his words isn’t just that – words.
It Takes Knowledge And Skill
Every day, Lips would walk past a house after school and he’d see a speaker sitting in front of the window.
He'd hear the tight drumming blazing away.
“I’d hear heavy music. Either Sabbath or Grand Funk, or Cactus.” Says Lips.
The boy in that house is called Robb Riener. He found his one passion when his parents brought him a drum kit. He found one thing he could do and do it skillfully, with practise.

Fate was about to bring them together, as one of the biology students talked to Lips, about bringing a dummer to practise.
It Takes A Team
They met and they made a pact to rock together and forever - letting nothing getting in their way.
Even their differences.
They’d rise to fame and their band is Anvil.
They’d become legends and what some say, the “demigods of Canadian Metal.”
It Takes Consistent Action
They’d release one of the most powerful and heaviest album that shook the metal music industry forever called “Metal To Metal.”
It influenced so many around the world and generations to come.
In 1984, they toured the world.
They’d perform with the biggest bands in Rock. From Bonjovi to Whitesnake, Metallica, Slayer to Metal bands like Anthrax, and all sold millions of records.
Except one.
Anvil didn’t make millions.
They disappeared and no one really knew where for a while.
It Takes Action Perserverance
What the world didn’t know is they were still doing their music and working in odd jobs. They’d travel to do gigs and sometimes, not get paid.
They face shoddy work on their album productions and everything you can think of going wrong, went wrong.
Travelling back tired with the band Lips once said..
“It was really good, we found those sleeping bags.”
Instead of playing in front of thousands of people, they weren’t. Sometimes it be 10 people or less. Sometimes a small crowd in a large pub.
They’d finish and...miss their train.

Imagine, if you’re in network marketing or any business, and you didn’t get even 10 traffic every 5 months and just get one customer a year.
And everyone around you, is making the money. You’re sitting there, watching and hearing, recognition after recognition.
One year, two, three and 5 years and you’re still in the same place, the same rut and having the same problem of prospecting, getting customers.
Would you still believe?
Would you still believe, even when you hear families relatives, wife, husband, community, say..
“It’s over. You are 50 years old mate. 30 years have gone. Just stop dreaming.”
It Takes Believing On What Others Don't See
They even had the record label, EMI send them an email, saying..
“Sorry but...”
They call one producer who has produced for them before and sends him a sample of their new songs for an album. He calls back.
They need to get $12,000 to get the album created.
What would anyone who has no money do? Say, “I haven’t got any money?”

It Takes Mindset And Passion..
As the camera moved towards Lips, he gave us a message which I feel is an answer to anyone who wonders what to do with their life today...
“I started with Rob when we were 14 years old and we said – we’re going to do it until we’re old men. We really meant that. Always believe that no matter how hard it gets, there’s always a way.”
If EMI and other labels haven’t come and no manager has even called, then, there’s only one thing to do. They’re going to do it themselves and sell their album by meeting the fans.
Even if they have to play in front of just 10 people. It’s music, it’s their dream and that’s what they did.
30 years of playing, working the music, dreaming the big dream and what you may think can only end with nothing...
Opens a window of hope.
Lips gets a phone call.
They are going to Japan.
Sometimes, when you have been trying everyday for years on end and nothing is letting up, you cannot help but feel, if it’s ever going to happen.
Especially when they arrive in Japan to find they are last to play on the slot.
Lips stares at the name Anvil and is reminded of the years where they’ve performed in front of just 5 people.
He wonders if that’s how it’s going to be again. Time is running out and they are already 50 years old and they’ve dedicated their life to the dream.
It Takes Loyal Following Of Raving Fans, Customers..
As they get ready and they step on stage - they get the gift of a life time.
It’s not 5 people. It’s not 10 in an audience.
t’s not even 50. It’s...

The dream came true and their the fans have been waiting for their legends.
Our dreams are as real as we want it them to be.
Sometimes, they may not happen straight away but when they do, you see all the challenges, the hard times, and life too, has gone by, like a flicker of an eye.
Time will always go pass by, no matter what we do.
I hope, you live your dreams, no matter what they maybe and write your own story as Anvil wrote theirs and kept rocking no matter what came at them.
To your success

Adam Taha
